  Gimel's Adventures with Chanukah Sam

Marketing Notes for Gimel's Adventures with Chanukah Sam.

Gimel's Adventure's open the world of Chanukah to all children, using engaging characters and a humourous back story to tell the history of this widely celebrated holiday. Young readers will identify with the children in the story and Gimel, the cat, is a feisty character that represents the pet found in the majority of U.S. homes. The gloassry helps readers who aren't familiar with the Yiddish and Hebrew terms in the tale.

The Audience. There are more than 13 million followers of Judaism worldwide. Given the continuing interest in multi-cultural awareness, schools and libraries would likely be interested in acquiring Gimel's Adventures. Additionally, in a society where day-to-day living has become more secular, there's renewed interest in teaching Jewish children about Jewish holidays. This book has the added appeal of being inclusive in that it encourages the exchange of holiday stories between Jewish children and children of other faiths. Gimel's Adventures is meant to be a fun book for all children.

Other Chanukah Books. Most books about Chanukah are straightforward tales of the holiday. Creative variations include The Power of Light by Isaac Bashevis Singer (Farrar, Straus, Giroux, 1980) and Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins (Holiday House, 1989) by Eric Kimmel.
